Devlog Update 2.2: Magic Circle Design Process
Hello!
Our magic circle is a focal point of Sigil. This was our original design created by our Creative Director.
His design process is very abstract and visually piecing things together without much prior concepting. Make it up as you go type of vibe.
During our prototype release, a lot of our game feedback was aimed at the size and visibility of the circle once it was placed. It didn't stand out at all and with this asset being a main focal point, it needed a bit of spice added.
With the short amount of time allocated for this task, he added to the existing circle to be able to identify it from a distance. This way it didn't get lost in the grass or on a random mountain.
After finalising the model, he took it into substance and textured it to fit the more 'grand' feel we originally wanted to achieve.
Adding to the ancient grand vibe came the portal platform that also holds the circle. The beam made the circle viewable from no matter where you were on the island. This helped us with storytelling elements and overall hit our aesthetic goals.
